Macmillan Golf Day

On the 20th June 2011, Bro. Michael Manning, in company with two colleagues from the Essex Golf and Country Club, undertook the Longest Day Golf Challenge and played four rounds of golf in one day to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

At 5.30am the sun was shining when the three golfers teed off at The Essex Golf and Country Club.  They played 72 holes without stopping and after eleven hours they finally finished the challenge at 4.30pm.  Not bad for a combined age of 202!

All three were elated that they had raised £6,360, far exceeding their original target of £4,000.  Kate Whittle, Fund Raising Manager representing Macmillan, Chelmsford accepted the presentation cheque from the golfers, shown in the last photos below, from left to right, Peter Lawrence, Bro. Michael Manning and Mick Drake.

After finally collecting all sponsorship monies, the total donations given to Macmillan amounted to £6,850.
