Brethren from St Laurence attended a meeting of the lodge and the following festive board which were both held at the Westminster Hotel, Avenue du Verger, Le Touquet, France. .
The meeting was generally held in English with several parts repeated in French for the benefit of the many French brethren present. Several French Grand Officers attended the meeting including the TRF Gilbert Geeraert, Provincial Grand Master and TRF Jean-Louis Marteel PPGM (Flanders), Member of Honour. A number of our own Grand Officers and executives in the Province of Essex were also at the meeting, having travelled down especially for the occasion. During the meeting the Secretary, VW Bob Self PGStBr, PDepPGM, gave a brief history of Freemasonry in France and also presented gifts to the French Grand Officers present. In turn, a medal was presented to VW Bob to acknowledge the assistance given by Great Britain and Freemasonry during the war. The lodge was closed in perfect harmony and the brethren retired to prepare for the Festive Board.
The evening festivities commenced at 7.00pm and included a Champagne reception at which a three piece band played, followed by a 5 course meal with wine and coffee. Excellent hotel facilities included a comfortable bar area, the terrace and adjacent silver service dining room accommodation; and the in-house chef had been awarded a Michelin star for his food, which was very good indeed.
Le Touquet Paris Plage is the nearest beach area to Paris and has luxury villas, shops, casinos, tennis courts, horse racing venues, major beach events and parades throughout the year. There is also a wealth of bars, cafes and restaurants, including "Perard's", which is famous for lobster soup and other seafood delicacies.
